Painter and curator Kenny Mencher's invitational show in Fremont featuresthe work of seventeen art instructors from around the bay, including Ohlone College, the Academy of Art, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and Santa Clara University, along with some unaffiliated private teachers. The work ranges from careful life studies (Rob Anderson, Christian Fagerlund,  Jody Mattison) through more gestural renderings (Tom Hughes, Christine Hanlon), all perhaps done on the clock, to freer interpretations of the human animal that distort appearances or suggest narratives (Mary Andersen, Judy Bonzi, Don Fritz, Rachel Lazo, Masako Miki, Paddy Moran, Jeff Neugebauer, Claire Thorson, Bryce Vinokurov, Jan Wurm). Dave Pace's African photographs and Pancho Jimenez's sculpted ceramic heads complete the show. People runs through February 21 at Ohlone College's Louie-Meager Art Gallery (SmithCenter, 43600 Mission Blvd., Fremont). or 510-659-6000.
