Paul Ogata

When: Sat., March 1, 8-10 p.m. 2008

Hawaiian-raised comedian Paul Ogata has a knack for making the banal seem bizarre. Take his bit on facial hair, which begins with a lurid description of Saddam Hussein's beard right when the former Iraqi leader was captured in his foxhole: "matted, knotted, like a mophead, with fleas, and ticks, and there was a starfish in it." Or his take on the common, but rather ill-advised directive to "have a safe flight": "What, am I tea-bagging the co-pilot?" Now with the Best of San Francisco Comedy 2007 win under his belt, Ogata is quickly rising to national stardom. He'll appear on Saturday, March 1 at the Amador Theater (1155 Santa Rita Rd., Pleasanton). 8 p.m., $15-$25. CivicArtsTickets.org
