OSS 117: Lost in Rio (OSS 117: Rio ne repond plus)

Rated NR 101 min. 2010

Puzzling, unfunny sequel to 2006’s OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies once again finds actor Jean Dujardin’s agent OSS 117 bumbling his way through a series of allegedly comic spy situations that were clichéd in 1965. This time the shenanigans are set in Rio de Janeiro, where leftover Nazis, hippies, Chinese hit men, and a pretty Mossad officer (Louise Monot) provide straight lines for the clueless 117. The Hitchcock parody finale only reminds us of how much time we’re wasting. Directed by Michael Hazanavicius from a screenplay he wrote with Jean-Francois Halin, based on characters created by Jean Bruce (101 min.).
