Restaurant Details

The first and last thing you need to know about Oscar’s Grill, an otherwise generic-seeming Mexican-American cafe located in an Alameda office park, is that it’s one of a small handful of places in the Bay Area where you can get the SoCal-style gut-bomb extraordinaire known as a California burrito — i.e., a carne asada burrito with French fries that are wrapped inside the flour tortilla. That burrito, which oozes with spicy housemade nacho cheese, is by itself worth a trip, especially if you happen to be in the vicinity of the Coliseum or Oakland International Airport. The tacos, on the other hand, are pricy and only of middling quality. Lunch customers in search of lighter fare should look instead to the cafe’s wholesome, vegetable-laden soups.
