Organic "Mystery Boxes" New to A.G. Ferrari



East Bay-based A.G. Ferrari has just joined forces with an organic farm to provide customers with bargain-priced "mystery boxes" of fresh, local, seasonal, organic produce.

Starting this week, the $25 mystery boxes can be pre-ordered at participating A.G. Ferrari locations, including the stores in Berkeley's Elmwood neighborhood and in Oakland's Montclair district. Once ordered, the boxes are filled at the farm can be picked up at the stores on Wednesdays.

The selection in each box changes with the seasons and crops. According to a press release, the current seasonal assortment "might include romaine, turnips, herbs, salad mix, frisee, favas, berries, cherry tomatoes, broccoli, rucola, radishes, spinach, flowers, and more."

Located near Petaluma, County Line Harvest is a 35-acre certified organic farm that specializes in greens but also grows tomatoes, strawberries, basil, onions, beets, fennel, various herbs, and edible flowers.

Founded by a young Italian immigrant who was homesick for the foods of his town in the Appenine region near Parma, A.G. Ferrari was based in Berkeley as early as the 1920s and has maintained its headquarters in the East Bay ever since.
