Opera on the Silver Screen: Madame Butterfly

When: Fri., July 9, 7:45 p.m. 2010

Madame Butterfly is easily Gaicomo Puccini's best work, and one of the most famous operas of all time -- a soaring, sweeping, heart-stopping orgy of emotion, set in Japan and following the tragic (and slightly twisted) love story of an American naval officer and his geisha wife. But for those of us who lack either the cash or the attention span to enjoy the real thing, OhloneCollege will screen the film version of San Francisco Opera's performance under the stars in its Smith Amphitheater (43600 Mission Blvd., Fremont) on Friday, July 9. The screening follows an optional lecture at 7:45 p.m. 8:15 p.m., $10. 510-659-6031 or SmithCenter.com
