Open House Holiday Art & Book Sale

When: Sat., Dec. 8, 12-4 p.m. 2007

Last year's relocation to a roomy space on the 23rd Ave. corridor marked another phase in the life of EastSide Arts Alliance. The organization's new third world cultural center provides Oakland's San Antonio neighborhood with affordable housing units, retrospective archival exhibits, youth classes led by dance choreographer Traci Bartlow and Living Legends emcee Bicasso, and a chance to see internationally known artists and activists. This year, EastSide Arts Alliance even commissioned a jazz opera by tenor saxophonist David Murray, with a libretto by writer Amiri Baraka -- the cast will feature local performers. Saturday, Dec. 8, EastSide celebrates its first year in the new building with its Open HouseHoliday Art & Book Sale, which includes special tours, student performances, and an exhibition of the 100 Families art project.
