When: Fri., Dec. 21, 7 p.m. 2018
Holiday festivities are not complete without some fun in the snow — or in this case, fun skating around an ice rink. Until recently, ice skating in the East Bay around the holidays was limited to the Oakland Ice Center in downtown Oakland, or it involved trekking out to San Francisco or San Jose. Not anymore. The first-ever outdoor ice rink in Old Oakland is officially open with events planned through Jan. 6. The event on Thursday, Dec. 21 will feature DJ Sean G for a reggae music session. One of the appealing aspects of the location of the ice rink — besides being in the heart of Old Oakland — is the endless number of places to eat nearby, but you can also order wood-fired pizzas, arancini, hot apple cider, and more from Benchmark Oakland right at the rink. Another incentive for kids: a $2 discount with a valid OUSD school I.D. or proof of Oakland residency.
Price: $13, plus $5 skate rental and $8 skating aids
