Obama Taps Oakland Lawyer for AG Job

According to the Oakland Tribune, Barack Obama has picked Oakland attorney Tony West to run the civil division of the Attorney General's office. West, a partner at Morrison & Foerster, has a long history of public service; he worked in Clinton's Justice Department, prosecuted a child pornography ring as an assistant U.S. Attorney, and advised state Attorney General Bill Lockyer on high-tech crime and the Microsoft anti-trust case. He first met Obama after the 2004 speech that launched his political career, and helped raise $500,000 for his presidential campaign. Now he's off to Washington. Tony, we hardly knew ye!
