Oakland Tet Festival

When: Sun., Jan. 27, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. 2008

Banhtettrungthu -- leaf-wrapped rice parcels -- and candied fruits dyed red for good luck are must-eats during Tet, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year celebration. Ushering in the Year of the Rat, the Vietnamese American Cultural and Educational Association of the Bay Area sponsors the Oakland Tet Festival on Sunday, Jan. 27 at Clinton Square Park (International Blvd. and 6th Ave., Oakland), whose festivities include food, music, dragon and unicorn dancers, talent contests, martial-arts demonstrations, an ancestral ritual, children's games, long strands of bright-red firecrackers, and much more. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. VACED.org
