Oakland Riots: BART Aftermath

The tensions boiling over from the killing of Oscar Grant exploded at Sunday's emergency meeting of the BART board, the Chron reports. About 100 people attended the meeting and lambasted officials, calling for the arrest of former officer Johannes Mehserle. At one point, Oakland City Councilwoman Desley Brooks went on a tear, getting BART board member Carol Ward Allen so pissed that she got up and walked out for ten minutes; she later explained that she was "aware that I might say the wrong thing" if she stayed. Other highlights: board member Lynette Sweet stupidly joked that they were missing the playoffs, and Attorney General Jerry Brown announced that he was sending staff to monitor how the district attorney's office is handling the investigation. Oh, and lots of people threatened to riot again.
