Oakland Fiber and Textile Festival

When: Sun., July 10, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. 2011

Knitters, quilters, weavers, and fiber fans of all strands intertwine at the Oakland Fiber and Textile Festival on Sunday, July 10, the second-annual gathering for crafters looking to share, swap, and sell their products and skills. Organized by Piedmont Yarn and Apparel shop owner Bente Petersen and fellow fiber artist Lou Grantham, the fest at Splash Pad Park (Grand and LakePark avenues, Oakland) is open to professionals and beginners alike. In addition to around thirty vendor booths, the event includes a handful of hands-on activities and demonstrations -- from a fabric swap to a "make-and-take" table, where attendees can learn the logistics of crafts like spinning and weaving and take home the product of their newfound skills. 10 a.m.-6 p.m., free. 510-595-9595 or OaklandFiberFest.com
