If you are one of those right-minded Americans who recognizes that much of what is great about this country — including its food — simply wouldn’t exist without immigrants and refugees, you’ve probably been looking for ways to extend your support to those communities during these daunting times. Here’s one way: Oakland Bloom is a nonprofit whose Open Test Kitchen incubator program provides training and support to refugees and other low-income immigrants who are trying to start their own food businesses. Sunday’s night market pop-up at the Clarion Hotel (371 13th St., Oakland) is a chance for these budding chefs to share their traditional cultural foods with the general public. The street-hawker-style market will feature Afghan dumplings, Cambodian lemongrass chicken, and Ethiopian stews and home-made flatbread. Proceeds from the $18.75 cost of admission, which includes three plates of food and a drink, will support the Oakland Bloom food incubator program.
