A story on Oakland’s taco trucks aired on NPR’s All Things Considered earlier this week. Reporter Corey Takahashi described how rising prices in San Francisco’s Mission District helped fuel the boom in the mobile food vendors in the East Bay, not to mention some bloggers who obsessed over them. Though the story was about taco trucks, Takahashi delicately skirts the issue of the “scary neighborhood” aspect when visiting Tacos el Gordo in the Fruitvale. Those gun shots he just recorded? Eh, could be the Hell’s Angels backfiring.
