"Not-A-Seder": Passover Cabaret of Laughter and Liberation

When: Thu., April 2, 7 p.m. 2009

Religious holidays don't have to be an onerous burden. According to the Progressive Jewish Alliance, they don't have to be sacrosanct, either. The alliance hosts its annual Not-a-Seder: Passover Cabaret of Laughter and Liberation on Thursday, Apr. 2, at Berkeley's La Peña Cultural Center (3105 Shattuck Ave.). Featuring comedy by Heather Gold, old-world klezmer by the seven-piece band Kugelplex, a DJ set by Jason D, and a "kugelthrowdown" (participants are invited to bring their own homemade versions of the carbo-heavy Passover dish), the event brings secular themes to a sacred tradition. 7 p.m., free. Donations accepted. LaPena.org
