New Century Chamber Orchestra

When: Thu., March 4, 8 p.m. 2010

The vibrant New Century Chamber Orchestra, conducted by the fabulous Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, turns its attentions to serenades and dances this week. The program balances two lighter orchestral works, Wolf's Italian Serenade and Dvořák's Serenade for Strings withBartók's energetic Romanian Folk Dances and Britten's profound Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings. The latter features Kevin Rivard, principal horn for the San Francisco Opera Orchestra, and Brian Thorsett, one of the Bay Area's finest and most staunchly defended lyric tenors. At the First Congregational Church(2345 Channing Way, Berkeley) on Thursday, Mar. 4. 8 p.m., $32-54. 415-392-4400 or
