National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

When: Thu., Feb. 7, 8 p.m. 2008

Whether or not you take a prurient interest in the sight of a wavy-haired Punany Poet holding a giant chalice of colored condoms, you probably get the gist of her trademark slogan: "No balloon, no party." Having lost her father to AIDS when she was just fifteen, HBO Real Sex emeritus jus'BEA made it her life's work to promote safe sex through poetry. On Thursday, Feb. 7, she will host a National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day showcase at Dorsey's Locker (2817 Shattuck Ave., Oakland), featuring Brooklyn comedian Shang, plus resources and information on free HIV tests. 8 p.m., free.
