Experimental & Avant-Garde

Mount Eerie

When: Sat., Sept. 19, 8:30 p.m. 2009

Anacortes, Washington indie folker Phil Elverum and band MountEerie just self-released an experimental black metal record called Wind's Poem. Evidently it's so good that the demanding aesthetes at Aquarius Records picked it as a coveted "Record of the Week." Damn. Now, Elverum takes his experiment on the road. First California stop: the best venue in the EastBay for it -- 21 Grand (416 25th St., Oakland), where he'll headline a bargain, all-ages show, sponsored by Club Sandwich: an under-the-radar promoting collective popping off locally. Opening: Portland's Tara Jane ONeil, Vancouver's addictive No Kids (big-upped by David Byrne), and Anacortes' folk-ist Karl Blau. On Saturday, Sept. 19. 8 p.m., $6-10 donation. 21Grand.org
