There are many lovely urban parks in the East Bay, but some of our favorites are those that feel stumbled-upon. One of the most unexpected patches of greenery we've come across doesn't even have a name, as far as we know, and has little to denote its existence, save for a sign that states it's a hazardous fire area. But the little alley of grass between the houses at 7701 and 7705 Potrero Avenue in the El Cerrito hills leads to a wide-open area and one of the most unexpected and glorious unobstructed views of the San Francisco Bay. It's a perfect place for relaxing, reading a book, or just savoring the view. And the fact that it feels like no one else knows about it (though we're sure many nearby residents do) makes it all the more special.
