We’ll admit it: We thought the Warriors’ owners were crazy last year when they fired head coach Mark Jackson after he guided the team to the playoffs for two straight seasons. We were wrong. Very wrong. Co-owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber weren’t crazy, they were inspired when they replaced Jackson with Steve Kerr, who promptly led the Warriors to the best record in the league and the franchise’s first NBA title in forty years. But more than that, Kerr’s lightning quick offense transformed the Ws into the most exciting sports team, not just in the East Bay, but nationwide. Whether the Splash Brothers — Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson — were raining threes or multitalented forwards Draymond Green, Harrison Barnes, and Andre Iguodala were making the extra pass (or two or five), the Warriors were the must-watch team this year. Golden State’s unselfish, team-first attitude was also remarkably refreshing in the Selfie Era. Plus, the Dubs were just plain fun: behind-the-back bounce passes, killer crossovers, flying dunks, ferocious D. They had it all. Now, Lacob and Guber can show some real genius — by keeping the team in Oakland.
