1. The typical Uber and Lyft driver nets just $8.55 an hour after expenses, like gasoline, insurance, and maintenance costs, reports Levi Sumagaysay of the Bay Area News Group$, citing a new MIT study. Uber and Lyft officials disputed the new study's findings. But the study's authors "did not subtract for the cost of car payments or leases, which obviously would reduce profit even more." In addition, the report found that 90 percent of drivers quit after a short period of time.

2. About 48 percent of Bay Area residents say they support Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf's decision to warn undocumented immigrants and the public about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids last week, the San Francisco Chronicle$ reports, citing a KPIX-5/Survey USA poll. Just 34 percent of Bay Areans said they oppose her decision.

3. About 11 percent of employees at the Disneyland resort in Southern California said they've been homeless during the past two years because of low pay and the high cost of living, the LA Times$ reports, citing a new survey commissioned by labor groups. The survey also found that 73 percent of Magic Kingdom workers said they "don't earn enough to pay for such expenses as rent, food, and gas." Disney officials disputed the survey's findings. Disney reported a net income of $4.42 billion for the final quarter of 2017, a 78 percent increase over the same period a year earlier.

4. ICE officials have maintained that their immigration enforcement actions in Northern California last week were "targeted," but at least one Latino man said he and three others were stopped by ICE for no reason and asked for proof of legal status outside a Circle K store in Merced County, reports Hamed Aleaziz of the San Francisco Chronicle$. The man, Miguel Botello, said he and his friends were racially profiled.

5. And the big snowstorm late last week dumped 5 to 6 feet of snow in many areas of the Sierra Nevada, reports Paul Rogers of the Mercury News$.
