The Diaz family owns several restaurants in Sonoma County, but here, they’re best known for Agave Uptown, the modern and colorful Oaxacan spot in Oakland where the velvety, rich mole is one of the main draws. This week, the family will celebrate the debut of their jarred mole sauce under the label Mole Diaz Bros ($9.49 for 16-oz jar). The recipe is top secret, but it’s made from more than 20 ingredients and is vegan and gluten-free. At the unveiling party, sample appetizers featuring mole, taste artisan mezcals from Oaxaca, enjoy live music on the patio, and pick up a jar to cook with at home. Don’t leave early though — at 4 p.m., Agave’s executive chef, Octavio Diaz, will join his parents for a special mole presentation.
