"Mission Block": Featuring Fresh Analog Music Experience (F.A.M.E.)

When: Fri., Sept. 9, 10 p.m. 2011

Fresh Analog Music Experience (FAME) is almost an oxymoron: Four producers perform "live" -- like, in band form -- using turntables, synthesizers, and sound monitors as their instruments. They're "analog" in the sense of eschewing laptops and software, and they're an "experience" by virtue of the fact that they sometimes improvise. That said, the whole concept is still pretty modern and futuristic. FAME fits snugly into the theme of Mission Creek Music and Arts Festival, a Bay Area-wide event that showcases underground and independent artists without favoring any particular style or genre. Though it mostly features live bands, the festival will hold a "Mission Block" DJ event this Friday, Sept. 9, at Mezzanine (444 Jessie St., San Francisco), with FAME as the headliner. Also on the lineup: DJ Touré of Oakland hip-hop crew Hieroglyphics, electronic producer ProfesorPanson (distinguished by his obvious sweet tooth for video game sounds), and rapper Megabusive, backed by DJ Dimitri SFC. 9 p.m., $12.
