Now two decades old, Minneapolis-raised band Mint Condition is one of the few New Jack Swing-era outfits to have real longevity and sustain an intergenerational fanbase. Part of its success owes to musical sophistication since each band member is a consummate instrumentalist with a good enough ear to sing four-part vocal harmonies. But the credit also goes to singer and percussionist Stokely Williams, whose powerful, elastic tenor helps shape and direct the band's music. Indeed, Williams' voice is so arresting and singular that he could sing hits like "Pretty Brown Eyes" or "You Send Me Swingin'" for another twenty years and still sound fresh. Mint Condition plays at Yoshi's San Francisco (1330 Fillmore St.) Tues., Sept. 30 through Thurs., Oct. 2. 8 & 10 p.m., $35.
