Miike Snow

When: Thu., April 15, 9 p.m. and Fri., April 16, 9 p.m. 2010

Even though Miike Snowfrontman Andrew Wyatt calls the hipster haven of Brooklyn home, bandmates Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg (aka the production duo Bloodshy and Avant) infuse Snow with musical DNA from the decidedly mainstream pop side of the street. Like fellow Swede Max Martin, Karlsson and Winnberg cut their teeth in the studio remixing and working with the likes of Britney, Kylie, Madonna, and J-Lo. Last year's self-titled debut may be packed with the kind of icy ambient nuances that suggest SigurRós (minus the weird, made-up language), but the threesome's commercial leanings are never far off, whether it's the epic, AutoTune-soaked ballad "Sylvia" or  the plodding synth-pop of "Plastic Jungle." Far from being a studio-only entity, Miike Snow creates a rave-like atmosphere in its live shows thanks to generous helpings of dry ice, impressive lights, and a knack for donning Phantom of the Opera-ish masks. The techno-pop themed theatricality will be unleashed at the Independent (628 Divisadero St., San Francisco) on Thursday, Apr. 15, and Friday, Apr. 16. 9 p.m., $20. IndependentSF.com
