Congratulations, the highly anticipated, much-delayed follow-up to MGMT's 2007's Oracular Spectacular, will be officially released on April 13. Lucky for Bay Area residents, the Brooklyn-based duo will be performing at the Fillmore (1805 Geary Blvd., San Francisco) both that day and the day before. Expect to hear cuts from the new album, like the first single, "Flash Delirium," which blends elements of David Bowie and Fifties doo-wop, with some cultish chanting and a little wooden recorder thrown in for good measure. What you shouldn't expect from the new album is anything that sounds like Oracular. Andrew VanWyngarden, one half of the band said, "The people responsible for making money hoped that we'd record another 'Time to Pretend' ... but everyone close to us knew we weren't going to do that." Instead, Congratulations offers emphatically original material, including a meandering twelve-minute epic and a bizarre instrumental track called "Lady Dada's Nightmare." After leaving San Francisco, the band will head south for an appearance at Coachella Music and Arts Festival. Monday, Apr. 12, and Tuesday, Apr. 13. 7:30 pm, $30. LiveNation.com or 415-346-6000.
