Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, author of The Joy of Vegan Baking and founder of the vegan education group Compassionate Cooks, teaches a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern vegetarian cooking class at the First Unitarian Church of Oakland (685 14th St., Oakland) on Saturday, August 16. Register in advance online; tickets are $50, plus $5 in food fees. 10 a.m.
