Mark Stevenson: "An Optimist's Tour of the Future"

When: Tue., Feb. 15, 7:30-9:30 p.m. 2011

Standup comedian, musician, and IT industry editor Mark Stevenson had the shock of his life when he was forced without warning to confront his own mortality. This prompted the journey that resulted in his book An Optimist's Tour of the Future. At the First Congregational Church of Berkeley (2345 Channing Way, Berkeley) on Tuesday, Feb. 15, Stevenson discusses that tour, which encompassed Australian farmers, a moody robot, and outer-space hospitality. The co-director of Britain's cultural learning consultancy Flow Associates, Stevenson is also an expert in prime-number cryptography. 7:30 p.m., $12-$15. BerkeleyArts.org
