When: Sept. 20-22 2019
The fall dance season at Cal Performances springs into high gear with the return of choreographer Mark Morris’ evening-length Mozart Dances. The West Coast premiere in 2007 swept the wide berth of Zellerbach Hall with the work’s buoyant physicality; brilliantly constructed ensemble staging; and vibrant, profoundly moving solo turns to three of Mozart’s most exquisite piano concertos. The reprise this year infuses the performance with local and world talent; featured are the Berkeley Symphony conducted by Colin Fowler and Israeli-American pianist Inon Barnatan as soloist. Auxiliary events include a community dance class led by company dance members and a free listening party in conversation with Morris, Fowler, and Cal Performances Artistic Director Jeremy Geffen. Trust this: when Morris meets Mozart and vice versa, results are sublime.
