Mark Farina

When: Sat., Jan. 7, 10 p.m. 2012

Often credited with not only popularizing house music in San Francisco, but also creating a tangible scene, Mark Farina has been a local fixture for nearly two decades. He's made at least a dozen compilations -- including his seven-disc acid jazz series Mushroom Jazz, which began as a dicey proposition but ultimately garnered wide acclaim. He's famous for playing B-side hip-hop and rare disco, and generally cares more about the artistic merit of his mixes than about pandering to a crowd. Such traits have guaranteed him staying power in a scene that's notoriously fickle. On Saturday, Jan. 7, Farina descends on Mighty (119 Utah St., San Francisco) with a lineup that's as close to blue blood as you get in Bay Area house: David Harness, Rooz, Adnan, Bo, Buckner, and Ken Minn. 10 p.m., $10-$15.
