Marissa Moss

When: Sat., Nov. 10, 3 p.m. 2007

A spunky middle-schooler with lots to say about gossip, gross-outs, sleepovers, makeup, and mean girls, Amelia is the creation of UC Berkeley grad Marissa Moss, whose forty-plus illustrated books for kids include the popular series of "Amelia notebooks," fictional first-person glimpses into a modern girl's mind -- in a school-notebook format. At Barnes & Noble in El Cerrito (6050 El Cerrito Plaza) on Nov. 10, Moss talks about Amelia's Family Ties, in which our heroine meets her father, whom she hasn't seen since she was a baby, and in which she wonders: If he's always loved her, as he says he has, then where's he been all this time? 3 p.m. BarnesandNoble.com
