Maria Muldaur's Garden of Joy Jug Band CD Release

Maria Muldaur's Garden of Joy Jug Band

When: Fri., Nov. 27, 8 p.m. 2009

Maria Muldaur got her start singing with the Even Dozen Jug Band in Greenwich Village and became a national presence in the Jim Kweskin Jug Band with her then-husband Geoff Muldaur. Last year, she met Kit Stovepipe, leader of Washington state’s Crow Quill Night Owls, a band with an interest in all retro American music with a heavy concentration on the jug-band vibe. Muldaur renamed them the Garden of Joy Jug Band and asked them to back her up on her recent album Maria Muldaur & Her Garden of Joy, a celebration of her jug-band roots. Stovepipe and his gang of multi-instrumental musical anarchists will take us back to the days of yesteryear with Muldaur supplying her familiar low-key sensual growl. Maria Muldaur and the Garden of Joy Jug Band play on Friday, Nov. 27, at the Freight & Salvage (2020 Addison St., Berkeley). 8 p.m., $18.50, $19.50. TheFreight.org
