Maria Muldaur & the Free Radicals

When: Sat., Aug. 23, 8 & 10 p.m. and Sun., Aug. 24, 2 & 7 p.m. 2008

Bay Area blues veteran Maria Muldaur's new album Yes We Can: Songs of Peace and Change is an activist's appeal for peace featuring Joan Baez, Odetta, Jane Fonda (!), Bonnie Raitt, Phoebe Snow, and the Women's Voices for Peace Choir covering songs by Bob Dylan, Marvin Gaye, Allen Toussaint, Earl King, and Garth Brooks. You may not be able to pick out all the individual voices on the album, but you'll certainly hear special guests Holly Near and Linda Tillery, as well as the instrumental contributions of the Free Radicals, when they join Muldaur for the album release party this weekend at Yoshi's (510 Embarcadero West, Oakland). Saturday, Aug. 23 (8 & 10 p.m.), Sunday, Aug. 24 (2 & 7 p.m.), $22, Sunday matinee $18 adults/$5 or 510-238-9200.
