Marduk, Nachmystium, Mantic Ritual, Black Anvil, Merrimack and DJ Rob Metal

When: Sun., Dec. 6, 7:30 p.m. 2009

With the impending demise of Annie’s Social Club, metal fans continue to lose precious venues in the Bay Area. Thankfully, there’s still 11th Street in the city, home to Slim’s and the DNA Lounge (375 11th St., San Francisco), the latter of which will play host on Sunday, Dec. 6, to one of many must-see tours in the next month or so. Headlining is Sweden’s Marduk, an iconic black metal band whose sound has gotten only more brutally assaultive since its founding in 1990, and which hasn’t played the area since 2001. Chicago’s Nachtmystium also takes its cues from black metal, but, like a lot of bands in that genre are doing lately, incorporated nonmetal influences on last year’s Assassins: Black Meddle Pt. I with great success — it landed on many year-end top ten lists. (The Pink Floyd vibe has helped Mastodon and Enslaved, too). Rounding out the bill are Mantic Ritual, Black Anvil, and Merrimack. Bring your earplugs. 8 p.m., $15, $20.
