Mademoiselle Chambon

Rated NR 101 minutes 2009

A reticent, married home builder (Vincent Landon) in a small French city falls in love with his young son’s schoolteacher (Sandrine Kiberlain). A less demonstrative pair of lovers you’re unlikely to meet – are they inarticulate, or only reserved? The key to their relationship seems to be the teacher’s violin playing, which moves them both to great heights of unspoken passion. Director Stéphane Brizé fills the drama with pregnant silences and the two actors make the most of them. But it may not be for everyone. Brizé and Florence Vignon adapted the screenplay from Eric Holder’s novel (101 min.).
