Machete Kills

Rated R 107 minutes 2013

Needs sharpening. Tired-looking second film in director Robert Rodriguez’ planned trilogy about the title hit-man-turned-US-federal-agent (Danny Trejo) patrolling the Mexican border boasts lazy plotting, who-cares acting, klutzy fight sequences, and imitation-Seventies-style rack focus that produces headaches. A definite comedown from the 2010 original, Machete. The baddies this time around include Demian Bichir, Sofía Vergara, Amber Heard, Charlie Sheen as the President of the US (billed as Carlos Estevez), Cuba Gooding Jr., Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Michelle Rodriguez, and Mel Gibson as a crazy high-tech arms manufacturer who sees visions of the future. But none of that helps (107 min).
