Lynyrd Skynyrd

When: Wed., July 16, 7:30 p.m. 2008

One of music's most misunderstood bands, LynyrdSkynyrd is often hung with the redneck yahoo tag that's haphazardly tossed around by Southern rock detractors. Fact is that the late Ronnie Van Zant had a lyrical storytelling flair, whether it was about musicians finding trouble on tour ("Gimme Three Steps"), the scourge of drugs ("The Needle and the Spoon"), or handgun violence ("Saturday Night Special"). And while their biggest hit, "Sweet Home Alabama," is now more known for hawking KFC versus flipping Neil Young the musical bird, these Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees are still going strong with founding members Gary Rossington and Billy Powell, and Van Zant's baby brother Johnny manning the mic. The South's gonna do it again at Wente Vineyards (5050 Arroyo Rd., Livermore) on Monday, July 21.8:15 p.m., $99-$289.

Dave Gil de Rubio

Price: $55-$98
