In The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society, a London woman becomes fascinated with a remarkable club that formed on the island of Guernsey during its wartime Nazi occupation. The late Bay Area librarian Mary Ann Shaffer wrote this popular novel with her niece, Annie Barrows, who discusses it over lunch at Rakestraw Books (409 Railroad Ave., Danville) on August 22. Tickets $15, reservations required. Noon.
