Los Lobos

When: Fri., Dec. 11, 9 p.m. and Sat., Dec. 12, 9 p.m. 2009

Strong and steady is the best way to describe how Los Lobos has have approached crafting a critically respected legacy that's garnered a throng of devoted fans dating back to the band's early-Seventies origins. After wrapping up their latest major label commitment, Los Lobos sought out a new project that was intended to be a return to their indie roots. Instead, they cut a deal with Walt Disney for a project called Los Lobos Goes Disney. Having already covered "I Wan'na Be Like You" for Stay Awake: Various Interpretations of Music From Vintage Disney Film, a 1988 Hal Willner-produced project, it's only fit that the quintet revisited the House of Mouse canon. The band applied its usual fusion of Latin folkloric music and Americana-influenced rock to songs from Toy Story, 101 Dalmatians, Lady and the Tramp, and even a remake of the aforementioned Jungle Book classic with a significantly different arrangement. The Southern California fivesome will be helping everyone rediscover their inner child on Friday, Dec. 11, and Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Fillmore (1805 Geary Blvd., San Francisco). 9 p.m., $42.50.
