Lo and Behold, Reveries of the Connected World

Rated PG-13 98 minutes 2016

Subtitled Reveries of the Connected World, filmmaker Werner Herzog’s documentary examination of the Internet assembles a phalanx of talking heads — including entrepreneur Elon Musk, engineer Leonard Kleinrock, roboticist Sebastian Thrun, and hacker Kevin Mitnick — but in the end filters the entire phenomenon through his own Herzog-ian point of view. His implied conclusion: Although rife with positive possibilities, the impersonality of artificial intelligence is a definite liability. No easy answers in Herzog’s mesmerizing doc, but lots of food for thought (98 min.).
