Livermore’s city council has taken a small step toward keeping Wal-Mart from opening a proposed 19-acre facility there, reports MediaNews. There’s already one Wal-Mart in town, and, as some Livermorians told their council, another one wouldn’t jibe with plans to make downtown more small-townish. The council agreed to explore getting more regulatory on big box stores, but made no promises. “It’s very hard for us to say, ‘Look, we don’t like you,'” said Mayor Marshall Kamena.
