Lisa Hanawalt

When: Wed., May 29, 7:30 p.m. 2013

Lisa Hanawalt likes drawing poop, genitals, weird cats, and -- in one instance -- Jeff Goldblum as a grotesque part man, part dinosaur. Her comics praise vulgarity, kind of like R. Crumb -- if R. Crumb was a "medium-young" girl living in Brooklyn instead of a 69-year-old man living in self-exile in southern France. And although her illustrations often veer way into gross territory, they're also as approachable as they are provocative; Hanawalt's drawings have been published in the pages of TheNew York Times, Vanity Fair, McSweeney's, and (of course) Vice. Catch her in the flesh on Wednesday, May 29, as she discusses and signs her first book, My Dirty Dumb Eyes, at Pegasus Books Downtown (2349 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley). Timid eyes, beware. 7:30 p.m., free. 510-649-1320 or PegasusBookstore.com
