Lil' B

When: Thu., April 21, 9 p.m. 2011

Many rappers use Twitter as a marketing platform, but few have the single-mindedly obsessive approach of Lil' B, the Berkeley emcee who is trying, as best he can, to become the most over-exposed person in the universe. To date, the nerdy, rangy, heavily tattooed, perpetually narcotized, self-proclaimed "based god" has released more than 60,000 tweets into the ether. He's invented a whole new genre of hip-hop, simply by repeating the same incantatory lyrics over and over again (i.e., Ellen Degeneres/Ellen Degeneres/Ellen Degeneres, or Hilton/Hilton/Bitch I'm Paris Hilton, or swag, swag-swag-swag ba-brrrang-dang-dang your girlfriend). His songs, while murky and utterly unmelodic, usually succeed in a form-meets-content kinda way - at least to the extent that the slothful molasses beats match the slurriness of the lyrics. To an observer, they might seem incomprehensible. To fans, they're gospel. And in the gospel of Lil' B, the word "swag" has at least 36 different meanings. He'll materialize Thursday, Apr. 21, at The Mezzanine (444 Jessie St., San Francisco) with Ninjasonik and DJ Slowpoke. 9 p.m., $20. MezzanineSF.com
