Hydrogen is running out of gas. According to a story in the Mercury News, Gov. Schwarzenegger’s plan to help create at least 100 hydrogen fueling stations in California by the year 2010 has run into an obstacle: no one is willing to do it. Each of three separate agencies that has received funding to help open a so-called “hydrogen highway” of clean-burning fueling stations has declined to move forward with the program. “This is a significant change in attitude,” said John White of the Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies. “People are simply refusing to participate, even if they get money from the state. If state officials don’t step in, the hydrogen highway could collapse.”
