A nineteen-year-old Texas youth, Jacob Lavoro, is looking at life in prison for making a plate of brownies with concentrated cannabis, KEYE-TV reports this week.

Officials in Round Rock, Texas are charging Lavoro with a first-degree felony because he used hash in the brownies instead of pot. The police are also counting the entire weight of the brownies — 1.5 pounds — as all hash. If found guilty, sentencing ranges from five years to life in prison.

Fifty-eight percent of Texans favor regulating marijuana like alcohol, and that percentage probably now includes Lavoro’s dad, who was a conservative until the Drug War ensnared his son.

“Five years to life? I’m sorry, I’m a law abiding citizen. I’m a conservative. I love my country. I’m a Vietnam veteran, but I’ll be damned … this is wrong, this is damn wrong!” he told KEYE-TV.

About 750,000 Americans will be arrested for weed this year. About 100,000 of them are in prison for it, with some serving life for pot.
