When: Tue., March 24, 5:30-7:30 p.m. 2015
Do you fancy yourself the proprietor of the next great American food truck, or have you perhaps been slinging jars of homemade kimchi out of your garage on the sly? If you want to take the next step and turn your gourmet food hobby into a proper business, Tuesday’s “Legalize Your Food Biz” workshop at the Food Craft Institute (65 Webster St., Oakland) should offer a good primer. Instructors Michele Simon (The Food Law Firm), Steven Sherman (Sherman Business Law), and Christina Oatfield (the Sustainable Economies Law Center) will harness their collective legal expertise to help you navigate all of the potential snafus that your nascent food business might hit. Topics to be covered include fundraising regulations, California’s cottage food laws, food safety liability, and what exactly it takes for your product to be certified organic.
