Leftover Crack

When: Tue., July 3, 8 p.m. 2012

You gotta hand it to Leftöver Crack: The New York-based hardcore/ska/crust band has been churning out fiery (and surprisingly danceable) punk rock for almost fifteen years, and its dedication to radical politics has been just as passionate -- if not more so. The band -- whose members have rotated over the years but whose lead singer, Scott Sturgeon (aka Stza), has remained constant -- has been perhaps most vociferous about police brutality (sample lyrics: Fuck the police!). Stza himself has had more than a few confrontations with officers, including an arrest in 2008 for a doughnut-throwing incident and numerous shows cancelled by the authorities. Regardless of how you feel about its politics, though, the band -- which has long had support from the Bay Area, with Alternative Tentacles and Fat Wreck Chords releasing its material -- also puts on a pretty fun live show. At the Oakland Metro (620 3rd St. Oakland) on Tuesday, July 3, 8 p.m., $15.
