Left Bass Dance Party: A Fundraiser for The BlackOUT Collective

When: Thu., March 19, 9 p.m. 2015

As the Express has reported in recent months, the BlackOut Collective has been responsible for many of this protest-prone region’s most vital acts of civil disobedience. A signature public service of the group is Black Brunch, the practice of occupying eateries in quaint districts to intone the names of people of color killed by the police. Similar actions continue throughout the country. In November, members of the group subverted the annual shopping shitshow known as Black Friday by chaining themselves to the West Oakland BART station. The next month, the group obstructed traffic and police routines with an action outside OPD headquarters. When BART moved to fine the protestors $70,000 collectively, the community rallied in support and the fees were eventually dropped. At The Legionnaire Saloon (2272 Telegraph Ave.) on Thursday, local funk outfit Nurelix, emcee Rashidi Omari, and DJs DJLN, BAAGI, and T. Rockwell perform for the benefit of BlackOut Collective.
