An unhappy British husband and wife of a certain age (played by Jim Broadbent and Lindsay Duncan) spend a long anniversary weekend in Paris, wallowing in their disappointments and trying, however unsuccessfully, to recapture the spirit of their youth. More prickly than sickly sweet, their misadventures owe much to the writing of Hanif Kureishi (My Beautiful Laundrette) and the direction of Roger Michell (Hyde Park on Hudson), but even more to the leading couple and the supporting cast, notably Jeff Goldblum and Olly Alexander as an American father and son whose problems make the grass look greener. Deceptively lightweight, with dark depths and hidden currents (93 min.).
