It’s Chinese New Year, 2006, and the largest mass migration in human history is happening: migrant factory and farm workers are squeezing onto jam-packed trains, heading back to their home provinces for the holiday from all over China. Chinese-Canadian filmmaker Lixin Fan and his crew get into the midst of the throng and listen to the life stories of the blue jean makers, and we learn a lot about what makes the world go around. Among the observations: “Americans are fat and tall so they need big pants.” Absolutely fascinating for fans of cultural anthropology (87 min.).
